What we are looking for:

  • A polypropylene compound with a shrink equivalent to or less than that of a 20% glass filled polypropylene but with the density of unfilled polypropylene.

 

 

      

 

 

Background

Currently we have an application where we mold polypropylene on the backside of a material that does not shrink. This difference in shrink causes warp and dimensional issues.

 

We are forced to use a 20% or 30% glass-filled polypropylene for its low shrink (4 or 3 respectively). Unfortunately, this increases the weight of the final part.

 

Key Success Criteria
  • A zero shrink is desired. However a 3 or 4 (x10^-3 mm/mm) is definitely of interest
    • Specification: ISO 294-4 Mold Shrinkage Tool/120 °C Afterbake
  • Flow ≥ 20 g/10 min
  • Carry a flow length of up to 160mm
  • Specific gravity = 0.9 g/cc
