Novel NGS Library Prep Technology

Request Number N183465
Need details

Thermo Fisher Scientific seeks innovative approaches for nucleic acid library preparation. The goal is to facilitate next-generation (high-throughput) sequencing.

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking partners and opportunities to develop and commercialize nucleic acid library preparation for next-generation sequencing (NGS.) The improvements we seek may relate to a specific type of NGS library preparation or more generally applicable. Ideally, the improvement(s) would surpass performance of existing, market-leading methods from commercial suppliers and include:

  • Higher fidelity replication or reverse transcription of target nucleic acid
  • More uniform coverage of either the whole genome or the targeted regions
  • Minimal amplification bias for quantitative applications
  • Ability to index molecules and/or samples
  • Reduced number of steps and simplified procedures
  • Support for low input amounts
  • Amenable to automation on standard liquid-handling platforms

Key Success Criteria

The successful technology improvement should meet at least several of the performance metrics as demonstrated by performance benchmarking data against currently available kits from

market-leading companies. The key metrics include:

  • Error rate
  • Coverage uniformity
  • Quantitative accuracy
  • Number of steps
  • Amount of input material
  • Sample and cell-type support
  • Minimal reliance on specialized instruments for fragmentation and size selection

Possible Approaches

The applications for NGS are very broad and therefore it is recognized that library preparation approaches may vary substantially from current techniques depending on the application.

Approaches that are novel with strong intellectual property (IP) protection will receive preferential consideration.
