Safe wireless technology for control of moving medical devices

Request Number N981889
Need details
Description

Siemens Healthineers is looking for available wireless technologies, which allow safe connections, coexistence, availability and pairing of components. These suitable solutions shall provide a safe communication link itself or keep the communication protocol safe (Some RF- sandards can use different protocols, or customized protocols) from errors and manipulation.

Background

Non-cable based user interfaces are getting more and more common. When speaking about moving medical devices, there’s a special need for a high degree of security and safety, to reach a commercial state. In detail timings - input reactions to output - (Delay<100ms in every scenario e.g. multipoint connection, power down, re-connection) are in focus, which determine i.e. stopping time of a moving device. So these signals should be independent from any non-safe data transfer.

Key Success Criteria

Safe connection according to

  • EN 60601-1 Medical electrical equipment general requirements for basic safety and essential performance

or

  • EN 62061 Safety of machinery – Functional safety of safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic control systems

or

  • EN ISO 13849 Safety of machinery – Safety-related parts of control system

in any case  the risk management process has to be taken into account

  • EN ISO 14971 Medical devices – Application of risk management to medical devices

Approaches not of interest
  • Non safe data transfer (e.g. joystick force sensors etc.) within the same RF Standard as used for the safe communication.
  • Co-existence of several RF-Standards in the user environment. No activating failures shall be possible.
  • Data integrity for the safe information.
  • Save Communication only containing bit information for safety related movement activation.

Preferred Collaboration types
  • Joint Development
  • Contract Research
  • Contract Analysis and Testing
  • Technology Licensing
  • Technology Acquisition
  • Consulting
  • Supply Agreement
  • To Be Negotiated
