Process Automation components are often installed into hazardous areas, such as ATEX Zone 1. To allow for distribution of communications technology such as PROFINET also in these areas, a suitable optical Transceiver is needed.



System Ambient temperature -40°C … +70°C no fan


  • Operating temperature range: -40°C to + 85°C min., better to +95°C
  • Low Power consumption: e.g. 250mW (typ.) / 400mW (max.)
  • Wavelength: 1310nm
  • Fiber-Connector: LC for 50μm Multimode-Fiber (Distance up to 500m)
  • Operation in: Ex-Zone 1 (look at diagram above)
  • Availability of the Transceiver: 10 years min.
  • Diagnostics via I²C-Interface: TBD
  • Moisture proofing: e.g. PCBA coated for SFP, grouted for SFF
  • RoHS compliant
  • Annual need: 2000-7000 Pieces (additional rise expected due to use in other product families as well)

    • Signal Detect Input: LVPECL (3.3V PECL) differential
    • Diagnose (SDA, SCL): 3.3V / 6mA CMOS
  • Endurance: long-life (e.g. 10 years at 24h, 365d p.y.)
