Long copper tubes >100mm diameter used for high voltage conductor

Request Number N276939
Need details

Siemens is looking for a source of machined copper tubes (Cu-HCP, or comparable and weldable electrolytic copper) with diameter from 100 up to 360mm, wall thickness of 15-20mm and length from 6,000 up to 20,000mm.

The copper tubes are used as conductors in high voltage bushings with currents up to 5,000 A. Use of Cu-HCP or comparable and weldable electrolytic copper is mandatory. If the solution consists of several raw material tubes it is mandatory that the welding seams of the final tube ensure high electric conductivity. The conductors are required to be machined with different kinds of notches, holes and threads and surface finish like silvering. The alignment is very important for further assembling and should be <=1mm per meter.

Siemens is using several hundreds of different types of long copper conductors with length of 6,000mm up to 20,000mm with demand of approximately 500 pieces per year in this range of length.

Key Success Criteria
  • Preferred: Supply of single-piece copper tubes at named dimensions with various kinds of notches, holes and threads
  • Alternative: Supply of unmachined single-piece copper tubes
  • Alternative: Joining technology to produce long copper tube from shorter ones with high mechanical strength and electric conductivity

Possible Approaches

Siemens is open to all solutions for manufacturing and machining large copper conductors as described.
