Description

IncWell's partner seeks the ability to determine the appropriate alternate bending factor (Ym) for electrical or hybrid gearboxes.

 

Background

When assembling automotive gearboxes for electrical and hybrid vehicles, it is highly beneficial to determine the alternate bending factor (Ym) to ensure that proper materials and designs are used. Unfortunately, current evaluation methods (DIN 3990 and ISO 6336) are not valid as they do not account for all of the loads applied to the gearbox:

  • load in drive direction
  • load in coast direction

 

As a result of this uncertainty, the Ym is not properly defined which can lead to increased weight or production costs for the gearbox or a reduction in its lifespan.

 

Therefore, to improve production quality and costs, a robust and reliable method to determine Ym is needed.

 

Key Success Criteria

The successful technology will report:

  • torque versus speed and time (measurement or simulation signals)
  • rainflow load spectra data
  • revolutions at torque level spectra data

 

Gear Modulus will be in the range of 1.0 mm to 2.5 mm

 

 

Possible Approaches
  • Selection of appropriate gear pair
  • Determination of time based meshing force characteristics with different drive/coast shares
  • FEA based damage analysis of tooth root area on coast and drive flank
  • Determination of alternate bending factors
  • Verification at test bench (simplified component tests)

 

Approaches not of interest
  • ISO 6336 Annex B: difference between lower- and higher loaded flank, but only for a periodic signal. (Eg. 100% load on one flank 50% load on second flank)
  • “Linke”: considers the number of load changes for an equal load on both flanks
