IncWell's partner seeks technology capable of preventing or removing moisture accumulation with a gearbox housing.



During the assembly of an automotive gearbox, the potential exists for moisture to adhere to the components. Additionally, during normal operation, the gearbox "breathes" - it brings in outside air from a vent, air which contains a variable amount of ambient moisture. Regardless of how the water vapor enters the system, it then mixes with the lubricating oil and introduces negative impacts on the operation of the unit.


IncWell's partner is looking to identify technologies that can either:

  • prevent the ingress of water vapor into the gearbox housing
  • remove water from the lubricating oil once inside the gearbox housing

The solution should allow for direct oil contact (if removing water from the oil), have minmal power requirements and, ideally, derive its power from the oil itself (heat cold oil during water uptake, cool oil during water removal).




Key Success Criteria

The successful technology will:

  • fit within small volume (approximately 8 cm3)
  • operate within temperatures between: -40°C to 150°C
  • disposal method must be non-toxic
  • cost effective on industrial scales:
    • target price per unit: < 5€ / unit
    • target volume: 400k annually
