Description

Incwell's partner seeks innovative methods to improve the properties of aluminum with the ultimate goal of reducing the weight of die cast production parts.

 

Background

We seek to reduce the weight to die cast production parts by making improvements to one or more of the following parameters:

  • elongation
  • yield stress
  • density
  • Young's modulus
  • ultimate tensile strength

NOTE: we are not seeking new geometries for our cast parts - instead we are seeking to make improvements to the material itself.

 

Key Success Criteria

The sucessful techology will make meaningful improvements to the at least one of the following parameters without negatively impacting any of the others:

  • elongation
  • yield stress
  • density
  • Young's modulus
  • ultimate tensile strength

Improvements made to any of the above criteria must be viable for commercial scale prodution.

 

Possible Approaches

Potential approaches may include, but are not limited to:

  • new alloy materials
  • computational approaches to new alloy development
  • novel casting processes
  • secondary operations such as heat treatments
