Description

IncWell's partner is seeking technology capable of providing accurate and in-depth simulation of material failure in plastics.

 

Background

There is a high demand to design plastic components to break at defined positions at a defined load. This has to be defined and judged in early project phases without knowledge of the nature of the tooling or even whom the supplier will be. Displacement due to cracks and crack propagation is needed to achieve the requested acceleration goals in tests. Injection molding simulations do not provide enough information. As a result, we are in need of a process must be found that is capable of defining feasible breaking points or to estimate proper part failure in early phases.

 

Key Success Criteria

Overall, the goal is to create simulations of plastic failures in a complete vehicle crash event.

 

Primarily the method should be elaborated for LS-Dyna but all other crash codes should be considered afterwards.  A minimum TRL of 5 for the method is required.

 

Possible Approaches

IncWell's partner is open to all approaches capable of achieving the desired goal of plastic failure simulation.

 

Approaches not of interest

Simulation of injection molding of individual parts is not sufficient.
