Head Health Challenges
We have joined forces to advance the development of technologies that can detect early stage mild traumatic brain injuries and improve brain protection. As collaborators, we are committing up to $20 million to fund innovative solutions that will help us accomplish our mission.
The Head Health Initiative includes three Challenge topics. Challenge I focused on discovering imaging and algorithms we believe will be able to better detect and analyze subtle changes in the brain. By providing doctors with a better understanding of the molecular and physiological changes that occur shortly after a traumatic event, we hope to help patients and bring better health to more people. The focus of Challenge II is on new materials and technologies that can protect the brain from traumatic brain injury and new tools for tracking head impacts in real time. Challenge III seeks to stimulate the development of a range of materials that provide excellent energy absorbing and energy dissipating properties.
- Challenge I: Methods for Diagnosis and Prognosis of Mild Traumatic Brain Injuries: The NFL and GE announced Round 1 winners in January 2014. Challenge I final six award winners were announced in July 2015.
