Excitation Force Identification and Vibration Transmission Model Development of Rotating Machine
NineSigma, representing a global leading autoparts manufacturer, seeks technologies for identifying and predicting the excitation force of motor-driven rotating machines and technologies for developing vibration transmission models. Specifically, the Client focuses on experimental identification and/or prediction method that are applicable to high frequency ranges (≤5 kHz) and have high accuracy in principle, as well as development of vibration transmission model.
The Client is engaged in the development of technology to identify/predict excitation force of motor-driven rotating machines manufactured in-house and those to analyze vibration transmission, in order to analyze noise inside and outside vehicles. With the spread of hybrid and electric cars in recent years, demand for technology that can accurately identify and predict vibration characteristics of machine parts especially in high frequency ranges (≤5 kHz) has been increased. The Client also promotes technological development themselves. However, given that the development of the concerned analytic technology is promoted in wide variety of industries such as automobile, ship, railway, and aircraft, they has decided to make this RFP to further accelerate their research and development endeavors.
Key Success Criteria
Motor-driven rotating machine connected to housing as shown on the right:
Size: Approx. 20 x 20 x 20 cm3
Rotational speed: Below several ten thousand rpm
Purpose: For automobile
Size: Approx. 20 x 20 x 20 cm3
Details of analyzed target:
Excitation force generated during the rotation of the machine shaft transfers to housing and cause transmitted force and surface vibration.
Outline of target system
Details of technology requirements
For the above system owned by the Client, the Client seeks: A) technology that can identify experimentally and predict based on analysis and calculation the excitation force, or B) methods for developing vibration transmission models.
A) Identification and prediction of excitation force:
Capable of identifying/predicting excitation force of rotating machines
Definition of excitation force: Internal force generated during the rotation of machine shaft
The Client expects the excitation forces can be concentrated on multiple representative points such as motors, gears, and internal shaft, but is open to others:
Proposals of only technology that can identify the excitation force experimentally are also welcome.
Not of interest are excitation force simulation technology with which experimental measurement results cannot be verified in principle.
B) Development of vibration transmission model:
Capable of developing vibration transmission models of transmission force and/or surface vibration for housing made up of multiple parts
Definition of transmission force: Force generated at connector to vehicles.
Definition of surface vibration: Vibration on housing surface
Not of interest are proposals of only identification technology of transmitted force and surface vibration by experiments.
Proposals for the development of simulation models only are welcome.
Frequency range: Preferably supports 0 to 5 kHz
Experimental identification accuracy: Preferably within ±10%
Calculation prediction accuracy: Preferably within ±10%
Applicable to target systems owned by the Client.
It is not necessary for both requirements A) and B) to be met, but either one only is sufficient. Also, there is no need to meet all requirements on frequency range and accuracy at this point; proposals are welcome if there is possibility of meeting them through further development by December 2021.
The Client expects technologies such as the following approaches or their combination, but is open to others:
Finite element analysis
Experiment mode analysis
Multi-body dynamics analysis
Statistical energy analysis
Application of vibration analysis method
Technology for experimentally measuring excitation force, NVH simulation technology, etc.
Items to be Submitted
Please include the following items in your proposal:

Specific examples of applications in the past, required time, accuracy
Universality of proposed technology (Applicability to target systems owned by the Client)
Proposal shall have clear points and should not include confidential information. Supplemental files may be submitted in addition to the proposal.
The client will evaluate all responses with the following criteria.
Overall scientific and technical merit
Approach to proof of concept or performance
Economic potential of concept
Realism of the proposed plan (action items, timeline, roles, deliverables, cost estimation)
Potential for proprietary position
Respondents’ capability and related experiences
Anticipated Project Process
After the submission due date, the client will review all submitted proposals. NineSigma will send the review results to each proposer 6-8 weeks after the due date. The client possibly asks clarifying questions before selecting the most suitable candidates for collaboration. The client will select best candidates through evaluations. During the selection process, the client may execute NDA with selected respondents, seek further information disclosure, and discuss specific development targets or potential opportunities.
The client will execute necessary agreements with the selected respondents and move to the advanced development phase. Specifics of any collaboration will be determined through consultation with the concerned parties.
