Siemens is seeking sustainable packaging materials to replace the PE-foil used for packing and protecting medium voltage switchgear and components.
In order to reduce the need and waste of plastic packing in their switchgear factory, Siemens is seeking a sustainable replacement for the existing PE-foil.
Currently, they are using PE-foil, PE-hoods and desiccant bags as protection during transportation and storing of switchgear and components. There is additional protection given by a wooden chest.
Key success Criteria
Must withstand direct rain for about 7 days
Must withstand humidity for greater 6 month
Must withstand sunlight for about 3 months
Must not degrade to microplastics
Must be suitable for handling between -25°c and +50°c
Should be heat-sealable
Ideally, should be biodegradable
Climate regulating (nice to have)
Inhibits corrosion (nice to have)
Siemens SWF is open to all solutions that meet all or partial success criteria.
