Siemens is searching for a desiccant that adsorbs a maximum amount of water and a minimum amount of carbon dioxide.
Currently, the desiccant is used within a gas-tight vessel. The desiccant should keep the gas inside the vessel dry for at least 35 years. One part of the gas inside the vessel is carbon dioxide. There is no gas flow inside the vessel. The purpose is to dehumidify the gas filling inside the vessel. The gas in the container stays inside at least 35 years and is not replenished. The desiccant cannot be reactivated. The amount of water to be absorbed depends on container size (the range is from 20gram up to 500 gram).
Key success Criteria
The desiccant should fulfill the following criteria:
maximum adsorption amount of water ( normally about 17-22 wt%)
minimum adsorption of carbon dioxide (@ 25°C / 1 bar absolute CO2 pressure (1000 mbar or 750 mmHg))
application: static water adsorption
preferred: no dust
demand: 10 - 20 tons per year
conformity to RoHs and REACH
delivery destination: European Union – Germany
temperature range: -40°C to +100°C
Siemens is open to all solutions that meet the success criteria.
From our experience, the following criteria are recommended (high probability that these criteria need to be fulfilled):
preferred Zeolite structure: Linde Type A / 3A
preferred Ion type: Potassium (K-Type or K-LTA)
preferred delivery structure: beads, bead size: open (easiest manufacturable size but in diameter not larger than 7-9mm)
Liquid desiccants are welcome as long as they are not corrosive to steel or alumina.
Novel techniques are welcome, but a production capacity up to several tons is mandatory.
A material safety data sheet is needed for transport and safe testing.
The material should be manufactured for the next 20 years (please plan with resources that are also available in 20 years).
We are looking for concise, non-confidential proposals. The proposal should:
Describe the technical approach
Provide information on the performance of the technology (if available)
Include a description of the responding organisation or team and their experience.
