RFP Title

Prototype Partnerships Sought
RFP Description

NineSigma, on behalf of a multi-billion dollar fast moving consumer goods company, invites proposals from organizations interested in becoming equipment design partners. Selected respondents will be asked to conceptualize, and possibly prototype, new production technology according to client specifications.

NineSigma’s client uses a variety of different pieces of equipment at all stages of their production efforts: research and development, quality control, and full-scale production. That equipment can include:

  • Temperature adjustors:
    • Chillers and freezers
    • Heaters
  • Curing
    • Immersion
    • Convection
  • Mixers
  • Manual assembly stations
  • Dispensers
    • Liquids
    • Solids
    • Powders
  • Automation

The intent of this project is to identify new development partners who can, as requested, design new and different equipment according to criteria selected by, and in conjunction with, the client. Design proposals of interest will be selected for prototyping. In some circumstances, depending on the anticipated volume and usage location of the novel equipment, the client may also request a full-scale production run or may seek to collaborate with the design team and an identified production partner.  The ideal partner would have innovative mechanical design, electrical design, controls design, and system integration as a core internal competency; design fabrication capability can be outsourced.

Updates and modifications would likely involve one or more of the following:

  • Electromechanical improvements
  • Control systems
  • Automation
  • System integration
    • Including IoT
  • Miniaturization
  • Environmental impact
  • Incorporation of sensing technologies
  • Metal Fabrication
    • Machining
    • Sheet metal
  • Plastics Fabrication
    • Injection Molding
    • 3D printing

Compensation for design and prototyping will be established with the client prior to the Engagement Phase of this project.

Anticipated Project Phases or Project Plan

Phase 1 – Review of Responses

  • Responding organizations will be evaluated Q3/Q4 of 2018

Phase 2 – Engagement

  • Beginning in late 2018, client will connect with identified partners for project assignments
Key Success Criteria

Client will consider for advancement organizations with a demonstrated capacity for innovation, a commitment to meeting established timelines, and responsiveness.

While the client is an industry leader in the fast moving consumer good (FMCG) industry, they are extremely interested in connecting with innovative equipment designers and manufacturers from inside and outside this space. Therefore, responses from developers from all industries are welcome and encouraged.
