Spherical Filling Material for Epoxy Resin

Siemens is searching for a material which fulfils the following specifications:

  • Specific particle size standard distribution d(0,1)=150µm, d(0,5)=300µm, d(0,9)=500µm
  • Specific materials: aluminium oxide (>98%) or magnesium oxide (>=98%) or boron nitride (>=98%)

To increase the thermal conductivity a highly thermal conductive filling material for epoxy resin parts is needed. A spherical filler is mandatory to achieve sufficient rheological properties. The filler must be an electrical insulator. The cast resin is processed in vacuum casting or pressure gelation.

The epoxy resin parts will be used as electric insulators for high voltage applications.

Demand per year is 1,000 – 10,000 kg.

Key success Criteria
  • Spherical, no hollows (needed to achieve a low viscosity)
  • High thermal conductivity (> 30 W/mK)
  • Dielectric strength > 12X106 V/m
  • Filling material must be fired to achieve a high mechanical strength
