Simplification of a Bearingless Motor System
NineSigma, representing a global manufacturer, seeks technologies or ideas that can simplify a system of bearingless motor, for cost reduction. Proposals related to the components such as bearingless motor itself, thrust bearing, and control of the system are widely welcome. (Concept-level proposals are also welcome.)

Background and challenges
For a certain purpose, the client is examining the below system to realize five-axis magnetic levitation:
Configuration: Two bearingless motors + Actively controlled thrust magnetic bearing
Motor output: 70 kW
Motor speed: 45,000 rpm
Motor efficiency: 97% or more
Full length of the rotor: 500 mm
Weight of the rotor: 8 kg
Radial load: Rated 250 N
Axial load: Rated 2,000 N
Overview of the system that the client is examining
Requirements of this open request
The client seeks technologies or ideas that can simplify the above system, which the client is currently examining, for cost reduction. Note that motor output, speed, efficiency, and load should satisfy the above specification. (Shorter length and lighter weight of the rotor are better)
The followings are examples of the anticipated approaches, however proposals are not limited to these.
With regard to bearingless motors
Reduce the number of bearingless motors. The moment around the center of gravity of the rotor generated by the load should be suppressed even with one bearingless motor.
Change the architecture of the bearingless motor itself to an inexpensive one.
Replace general three-phase inverters used for the bearingless motors with cheaper ones
Omit the rotation angle sensor(s) mounted on the bearingless motor
With regard to thrust bearings
Replace a part of the thrust bearing with a passive magnetic bearing using permanent magnet
Reduce the number of amplifier bridges
Omit the shaft position sensor
Since the level of the above requirements are challenging, proposals are not required to satisfy all requirements. The client also welcomes proposals that can be established via a prototype through one to two years of development.

Anticipated Project Process
After reviewing submitted proposals, the client possibly ask clarifying questions before selecting the most suitable candidates for collaboration. The client will select best candidates through evaluations. During the selection process, the client may execute NDA with selected respondents, seek further information disclosure, and discuss specific development targets or potential opportunities.
The client will execute necessary agreements with the selected respondents and move to the advanced development phase. Specifics of any collaboration will be determined through consultation with the concerned parties
