RFP Description
NineSigma, representing a Fortune 500 Corporation, invites proposals describing materials or methods for attracting, trapping, capturing and holding dust, particles and other particulates on hard surfaces.
Background

Surface preparation is a key component to finished product quality in many industries.  Dust and other solid particulate contaminants can negatively affect the quality of electronics, pharmaceutical, medical, microscopy and imaging products, as well as parts from aerospace and automotive industries that require contaminant free surfaces for coating, painting, or optical clarity.  It is often necessary to physically remove particle contaminants from a hard surface to ensure an appropriately clean surface before the next processing step.  NineSigma’s client is seeking new materials and methods for wiping or clearing away debris from surfaces without leaving any residue on the work surface or manufactured part.

 

 

Key Success Criteria

Successful contamination removal technologies will:

  • Enable wiping or clearing away of dust, particles and other debris from solid surfaces
    • Have a high particle  holding capacity
    • Be easy to wipe over a surface (low coefficient of friction)
    • Leave behind no residue, lint etc.
  • Not contain silicone, volatile organic compounds, or produce offensive odors

Your response should address the following:

  • Non-confidential description of proposed contaminant removal technology including:
    • Description of particulate holding capacity
    • Description of lint and residue properties
    • Description of drag properties (coefficient of friction)
    • Static and flammability descriptions
  • Technical maturity of the approach (concept, prototype, ready to commercialize, commercialized)
  • Team description and related experience
  • Intellectual property status description
  • Etc.
