RFP Description

NineSigma, representing Suntory Global Innovation Center Ltd., seeks the method of reproducing the state of food proteins after digestion and absorption.

The Client desires to use this method as pretreatment for in vitro evaluation of food proteins.

Proposed method with no proven track record of applications to proteins at present are also welcome if they can be potentially applied to solve this issue.

Methodological requirements

It is desirable that proposals meet the following requirements at this time, but other methods are also welcome if they can meet the methodological requirements in the future through additional development.

  • Treatment that mimics human digestion and absorption
  • Applicable to proteins, especially peptides
  • Able to produce at least 50 mg of treated material after the process
  • Food material can be reproducibly treated

 

Moreover, it is desirable to have a successful record of the proposed method.

Possible Approaches

Possible approaches

The Client expects technological approaches such as the following, but is open to others:

  • Treatment that mimics digestion and absorption of food-derived proteins
  • Treatment of digestive process (digestive enzyme or chemical decomposition reactions)
  • Treatment of absorption process (intestinal cell, peptide transporter expression system, or artificial membrane)
  • Pretreatment method for digestion absorption to evaluate drug/nutrient efficacy
  • Evaluation system for digestion absorption in the digestive tract to examine drug/nutrient dynamics
  • Instruments/utensils that can treat the material to produce food protein degradation products after digestion absorption
Items to be Submitted

Background

In the health functional evaluation of proteins, it is a general problem that extrapolation from in vitro evaluation results to in vivo evaluation is low.

This is because effects of the digestion and absorption of protein materials in the body cannot be reflected in in vitro evaluation.

It is hence expected that the extrapolation will be improved by using the pretreatment that mimics the state of digested and absorbed protein materials and subsequently performing in vitro assay.

The Client wants to identify organizations, engineers, or researchers with promising technologies that can solve the problems as soon as possible, and hence decided to recruit technology proposals.

 

Notes on Response

Proposal shall have clear points and should not include confidential information. Supplemental files may be submitted in addition to the proposal.

 

Response evaluation

The client will evaluate all responses with the following criteria.

  • Overall scientific and technical merit
  • Approach to proof of concept or performance
  • Economic potential of concept
  • Realism of the proposed plan (action items, timeline, roles, deliverables, cost estimation)
  • Potential for proprietary position
  • Respondents’ capability and related experiences

 

Anticipated Project Process

After the submission due date, the client will review all submitted proposals. NineSigma will send the review results to each proposer 6-8 weeks after the due date. The client possibly asks clarifying questions before selecting the most suitable candidates for collaboration. The client will select best candidates through evaluations. During the selection process, the client may execute NDA with selected respondents, seek further information disclosure, and discuss specific development targets or potential opportunities.

The client will execute necessary agreements with the selected respondents and move to the advanced development phase. Specifics of any collaboration will be determined through consultation with the concerned parties.
