Suntory seeks new computational approaches for detecting new functional or bioactive peptides from chicken genome.
The classic in vitro or in vivo approach to bioactive peptide discovery starts with a functional fraction or extract, potentially containing bioactives. Interesting fractions are identified via bioactivity-guided fractionation either in vitro (cell-based) or in vivo and the identified fractions undergo further rounds of fractionation and subsequent proteomic and peptidomic analysis in order to narrow adown and ultimately identify the active peptides.
Increasingly, complementary and bioinformatics-driven strategies have been used to enable in silico discovery and prediction or bioactive peptides, an approach coined as “reverse genome engineering”.
Key success Criteria
The proposed solution must utilize the chicken genome to identify potential bioactive peptides. It should be relatively inexpensive and the list of bioactive peptides should be listed in order of feasibility and relevancy. Health benefits and functions of interest would include neurocognition, anti-oxidant, anti-fatigue and more.
Possible in-silico approach has been listed under background. Other forms of reverse engineering and computational approaches may be used, including predictive modelling and data-mining.
