Description

OSC seeks organizations who are interested in commercial applications for a soy-based coupling agent for polymer composites.

Background

The Ohio Soybean Council has developed an engineered soy-based resin with maleic anhydride functionality and a high melting point, making the resin suitable for use as a coupling agent in polymer composites.  This resin is offered as a solid powder or pellet for easy handling and mixing in polymer composite formulations.

Features and Benefits

  • Ease of handling due to solid form
  • Compatibility with nylon, polyolefins, and polyesters
  • Enables polymer/polymer and polymer/filler coupling
  • Acts as adhesion promoter in (liquid) coatings
  • Acts as dispersing agent for powder coating and toners

Melt Properties as a function of temperature

Typical Physical Properties

Key success Criteria

Opportunity should preferably have:

  • A clear path for product development
  • Acceptable prospect for market demand (or at least growth potential)
  • High likelihood to be manufacturable
Possible Approaches

Possible applications for this Technology include, but are not limited to:

  • Coatings (liquid and powder)
  • Injection molding masterbatch
  • Solid-phase ink and toner
