NineSigma, representing Daiichi Sankyo Company, Limited (https://www.daiichisankyo.com/ ), seeks technology to evaluate the blood flow and diameter of peripheral microvessels, especially in toes.
Specifically, technologies to evaluate whether microvascular circulation in toes is increased after the administration of pipeline compounds by using proposed technology will be anticipated.
According to the development plan, the blood flow and vascular diameter will be determined in toes of animals (mice) first, followed by human toes in the future.
At present, appropriate technology has not been chosen yet because of the following challenges:
Current measurement technology challenges
- It is hard to determine the blood flow of microvessels in real time because blood vessels are covered with muscle
- Although it is possible to make muscle transparent to evaluate the condition of blood vessels, it is difficult to assess changes over time
- As blood vessels in toes of mice, etc. are thin, their enucleation and functional assessment are impossible
For these reasons, pharmaceutical research and development by using proposed technology must be accelerated.
