RFP Title

Technology to Evaluate Peripheral Microvascular Environment
RFP Description

NineSigma, representing Daiichi Sankyo Company, Limited (https://www.daiichisankyo.com/ ), seeks technology to evaluate the blood flow and diameter of peripheral microvessels, especially in toes.

Specifically, technologies to evaluate whether microvascular circulation in toes is increased after the administration of pipeline compounds by using proposed technology will be anticipated.

According to the development plan, the blood flow and vascular diameter will be determined in toes of animals (mice) first, followed by human toes in the future.

At present, appropriate technology has not been chosen yet because of the following challenges:

Current measurement technology challenges

  • It is hard to determine the blood flow of microvessels in real time because blood vessels are covered with muscle
  • Although it is possible to make muscle transparent to evaluate the condition of blood vessels, it is difficult to assess changes over time
  • As blood vessels in toes of mice, etc. are thin, their enucleation and functional assessment are impossible

For these reasons, pharmaceutical research and development by using proposed technology must be accelerated.

Key Success Criteria

Technological requirements

Measurement technologies or devices that meet the following requirements are of interest:

  • Vascular site to be measured
    • Toes in mice
    • Human toes in the future
  • Measurement items: Blood flow and diameter of microvessels
  • Capability of measuring blood flow over time
    • Preferably, visualize peripheral microvascular condition (constriction or relaxation) in real time
  • Use in murine lower-limb ischemia model
    • At present, any technologies or devices applicable to mice are welcome even if developed for human capillaries
  • Potential applicability to humans in the future
  • No additional/special facilities are needed
    • To be used, for example, in laboratories, hospital rooms, etc.
Approaches not of Interest

Approaches Not of Interest

The following approaches are not of interest:

  • Technology that estimate microvascular flow using other organ tissues (e.g., cremaster muscle)
  • Invasive approach
Items to be Submitted

Notes on Response

Proposal shall have clear points and should not include confidential information. Supplemental files may be submitted in addition to the proposal.

Response evaluation

The client will evaluate all responses with the following criteria.

  • Proposal content and proposer profile
  • Feasibility of achieving target specifications
  • Economic potential of concept
  • Related experiences

Anticipated Project Process

After the submission due date, the client will review all submitted proposals. NineSigma will send the review results to each proposer 6-8 weeks after the due date. The client possibly asks clarifying questions before selecting the most suitable candidates for collaboration. The client will select best candidates through evaluations. During the selection process, the client may execute NDA with selected respondents, seek further information disclosure, and discuss specific development targets or potential opportunities.

The client will execute necessary agreements with the selected respondents and move to the advanced development phase. Specifics of any collaboration will be determined through consultation with the concerned parties.
