Depending on the nature of the proposed solution this RFP could result in one or more of the following: technology licensing, supply/purchasing agreements, joint development contracts, contract research, or funding to show proof of concept leading to scale-up to manufacturing.

Phase 2 – Financial agreements will vary dependent upon proposed solution, nature of the business arrangement, and intellectual property status of the technology, as required.

NineSigma, representing a Global Supplier of Industrial Elastomer Products, invites proposals for technologies that will prevent fine particulates from adhering to textured elastomeric surfaces.
Particle adhesion is a complex process involving a wide range of factors in the areas of materials engineering, particle physics, and surface and interfacial science. For industrial processing applications, these factors are further complicated by the addition of environmental influences (temperature, humidity, etc.), individual application-specific standards, and regulatory requirements. Larger particulates and clumped particles can be easily removed from the client’s engineered elastomers by in-process methods (scraping, vibration, gravitational effects, etc.). However, despite such mechanisms, microscale materials may remain attached resulting in inherent product loss, cross-contamination, reduction in process speed, system downtime for cleaning, and other issues that limit process efficiency.
NineSigma’s client has significant expertise with engineered industrial materials. However, the anti-adherent technologies investigated to date through traditional channels fail to meet their high standards for durability and operational efficacy. As such, the client has issued this open, global request to identify, develop or acquire novel technologies from across industry that can eliminate particle adhesion without the need for cleaning or offline treatments.
