OPPORTUNITY: NineSigma’s client is interested in a range of partnership options targeted at optimizing material solutions to their current application. Depending on the nature of the proposed solution, this RFP could result in one or more of the following: licensing, joint development, proof of concept leading to scale-up to manufacturing, supplier agreement.

SOLUTION PROVIDER HELP DESK:
NineSigma, representing a Global Industrial Products Manufacturer, invites proposals for strong, flexible materials that can create long-lasting, watertight seals over metals, ceramics and polymers.
In the client’s application, a three-dimensional, metallic barrier is fitted over joints of dissimilar base materials to prevent influx or migration of moisture and environmental contaminants. The physical structure of these base materials is highly variable across the range of end uses. As such, the barrier material itself must be flexible and ductile enough to conform tightly to the final structure, yet durable enough to withstand a high degree of physical and environmental stress.
At present, the material source is insufficient to meet the client’s high standard for performance and durability. The current application may involve outdoors exposures upwards of 50 years. Alternative material solutions are necessary to compete with ongoing innovations in the field. A number of options have been tested for efficacy (aluminum, polymer alloys, engineered silicone, etc.), yet none have exhibited the desired combination of characteristics and cost effectiveness at production volumes. The client acknowledges that solutions may exist within industries external to their own and is actively seeking partners across industry, academia and consulting to develop or optimize materials to this application.
