Seeking Experts to Help Define the Ohio Opioid Technology Challenge
RFP Description

The Ohio Third Frontier has contracted NineSigma to administer the Ohio Opioid Technology Challenge, an 8-million-dollar program to accelerate technology breakthroughs that could help address the U.S. opioid crisis. NineSigma seeks to create an Expert Advisory Panel consisting of volunteers with expertise related to managing the opioid epidemic.

Background

The opioid epidemic is a significant problem for the United States and the State of Ohio.  The FDA called opioid addiction its biggest crisis in July 2017.  Ohio invests nearly a billion dollars each year on the problem of opioid abuse and addiction.  The opioid epidemic has affected millions of lives.

As a result, the Ohio Third Frontier is investing US$20 million to accelerate scientific and technological breakthroughs that could help combat the U.S. opioid problem.  NineSigma is administering the Ohio Opioid Technology Challenge as a three-phase challenge program:  the Idea Phase, the Technical Challenge Phase, and the Product Phase

NineSigma seeks to create an advisory panel of 12-16 volunteers with direct experience dealing with the opioid epidemic who are willing to help define the Technical Challenge problem statement and evaluation criteria, offer thought leadership in press articles, and potentially participate in evaluating submissions to each phase of the challenge program.  Broadly speaking, the Technical Challenge will focus on technical solutions that advance capabilities in the areas of prevention, treatment, overdose response, and/or overdose avoidance.
