NineSigma, representing a Global Electrochemical Products Client, invites proposals to improve control over the diffusion dynamics of a reactive gas and aqueous liquid within a thin, solid microporous environment.
NineSigma’s client is seeking designs, strategies, manufacturing techniques and other technical solutions to enable a thin (<1.0mm), multi-stage, microporous structure through which a highly reactive gaseous phase and a liquid phase are maintained separately but in close proximity. The liquid phase is highly alkaline and subject to variable cycling of oxidation and reduction reactions within this environment. Vapor permeability is required across the system; however, any ingress of liquids into the gaseous phase can be detrimental to product stability and overall functionality. During cycling both mechanical and material stresses occur due to phase change reactions, which further complicate these issues with instability, flooding, cracks, overall decrease of performance, etc.
The client has conducted significant research into this area to date, but has not yet identified a reliable solution to suit their needs. It is hypothesized that potential solutions may exist within adjacent industry applications especially where thin, multi-layer films and materials are routinely employed. Potential respondents may exist from across the landscape of industry, academia and research in the areas of materials science, manufacturing engineering, design engineering and more.
