Description

ICL Innovation seeks molten salt liquid heat transfer fluids, or mixtures thereof, comprising primarily the following ions: K+, Mg++, Na+, Ca++, PO4(-3), Br(-1), and Cl(-1).

 

 

Background
201310894111.jpgICL produces a range of salts from both the Dead Sea and quarries around the world. Molten salt mixtures which offer enhanced properties, and are based on these materials would strengthen ICL's position in the green energy market and serve to solve the critical issue of heat transfer in this market.
Key Success Criteria
  • Usage of the noted ions
  • Solidification below 200 °C
  • Stability up to 1000 °C
  • Stability of salt mixture > 10 years
  • Specific heat capacity, Cp > 1 kJ/kg°C
  • Compatibility with construction materials that cost < 1.1x cost of Hastelloy
  • Superior performance relative to K-NaNO3 mixture
  • Economic viability

ICL Innovation welcomes responses from academic or research institutions or other organizations who are interested in developing innovative technologies and sharing intellectual property in licensing. Approaches with demonstrated feasibility are preferred, but early stage approaches with sound scientific concepts are also welcome. Technologies aligned with business interest will enjoy full funding until implemented on an industrial scale.
